407th Strategic Fighter Wing
F-84 era (1954 - 1957)
The 407th Strategic Fighter Wing deployed to Misawa AB,
Japan, from August 8 to November 10, 1954. The above scarf
is probably from that deployment. The wing consisted of the
515th, 516th and 517th Strategic Fighter Squadrons. Flying
several versions of the F-84 Thunderjet, the wing provided
long-range fighter escort and refueling for B-36 Peacemaker
and B-50 Superfortress bombers.
